Alastair Pennycook is known for his work in four areas: Implications of the global spread of English, critical applied linguistics, the philosophy of language, and studies of urban multilingualism. His most recent books include Innovations and Challenges in Applied Linguistics from the Global South (with Sinfree Makoni) and Language Assemblages.
Prior to joining RELC, he was a lecturer in the Department of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics, at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. He has also taught various TESOL teacher-education courses to early-childhood, primary, and secondary English language teachers from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. He has published widely in the fields of World Englishes curriculum and pedagogy, language teacher education, and intercultural education.
Prof. Tariq Elyas is a Full Tenured Professor of Applied Linguistics at King Abdulaziz University (Saudi Arabia). He holds an MA in English Literature (USA) and a PhD in Applied Linguistics (Australia). Prof. Elyas’s areas of interests include Global English, Policy Reform, Media and Women Studies in the Middle East.
Emi Emilia is a professor in language and literacy education at Indonesia Univesity of Education. She earned her PhD in language and literacy education at the University of Melbourne (2002-2005). Her research interests are critical thinking, critical literacy including PISA-reading, critical pedagogy, systemic functional linguistics (SFL), including SFL genre-based instruction in teaching literacy, curriculum analysis. Emi Emilia worked as Head of Centre for Language Strategy and Diplomacy Development in the Ministry of Education and Culture from 2015-2020 and her responsibility was to do with among others foreign language policy. Emi has made a lot of publications, including books, modules, and papers in local and international journals.
Dina Mehmedbegovic-Smith is an Associate Professor of Education and Applied Linguistics at University College London, Institute of Education; lecturing at MA and doctoral levels. Director of Healthy Linguistic Diet Ltd, a consultancy and research agency; working with international schools in: Brazil, China, Dubai, Manila, Portugal, Singapore, Switzerland, USA and UK.
